The textures of life inspire my painting. I seek to engage viewers with my understanding of the way things feel and look, both inwardly and outwardly. Whether I am painting a landscape, portrait, or still life I allow the texture of the painting medium to guide my choices. I am drawn to the visual textures around me with their many layers of time and weathered surfaces. Textures take time to develop and my work depicts layers of texture that entice and continue to reveal more about our time here on earth. The visceral feeling of paint, whether the soft wash of watercolor, the thick impasto mark of oil paint, or a dry brush stroke against a rough paper, draws me into the art making process. As I continue to build my own experiences of a “textured life” I hope you will join me as I travel the terrain of my art making process.
